Good news if you're receiving spam comments on your BlogPortal: 21Publish now offers three different plugins to fight spam: 21Publish, akismet and defensio.
The native 21Publish plugin is a very basic service with only limited filtering capabilities, but we are constantly enhancing this service. If you stay with the 21Publish service, you will always get the latest anti-spam updates provided by 21Publish.
The other plugins can connect to services at akismet.com or defensio.com, two very common and powerful anti-spam services. If you want to use any of them, you need to sign up with the corresponding service and get your own API key, which you can then insert into your account.

To check out the new features, simply log on to your portal and go to "Portal Homepage -> More Options -> Spam checker".

If you do not enable any plugin, your BlogPortal will automatically use the 21Publish spam filter, so don't worry if you do not want to change your settings in the short term.

We've added some useful features for handling comments: when viewing an article with comments within the administration pages of your blog (or portal), you can mark multiple comments and delete them all at once - way easier than confirming every single deletion of each comment.

Also, the comment monitoring feature now also removes the corresponding comments. Confused? Well, in order to be informed about new comments, we distinguish the comment and a notification about that comment. The comment notification screen displays all notifications about new comments. If you've read them, you can delete those notifications, and the comments will still be accessible on the blog. However, if you wanted to delete both the notification and the comment, you'd have to switch to each article where a comment was posted, and remove that comment manually. Now, when deleting a notification, we simply ask whether you merely want to remove the notification or the comment as well. Way easier.

Anyone now leaving a comment on this blog please note that we activated comment moderation, i.e. we first have to approve each comment prior to its publication.

This step was necessary since we received an increasing amount of spam, and deleting such comments afterwards just took more and more time.
